Description:

This is a work in progress. Please visit http://mnemosyneparser.blogspot.com/ for the latest information/version.

Useful for reviewing cards on portable devices such as PSP/DS/iPhone/iPod/Mobile phone/Camera

Reads a mnemosyne XML export and creates a series of images of the cards content.

Orders the cards by a field of your choice (easiness, grade, retention reps, grade & easiness, grade & retention reps). It then essentially creates a question card (.jpg) with a numerical filename exactly 1 less than the answer card (also
a .jpg). You just view pictures in order on any device that can display jpg's sequentley in order of filename.

After your Mnemosyne repitions, you recreate the cards (the new gradings assigned my mnemosyne essentially shuffle the deck each day), load them onto your portable device and view them when you have time to kill.

Application does not support grading.

Written in C# (.Net 3.0) and tested only on Windows platform.

EDIT: Applied fix for stupid devices that believe 02 is bigger than 012. (Never sort file names in this way. Stupid, stupid, stupid)

Simple Instructions for iPhone

This is great. Thanks for making this, Val.

You may need to download and install the .Net 3.0 framework (already included in Vista and higher).
Download and extract the ZIP archive linked above to a location on your hard drive.

1. In Mnemosyne, go to File, Export, and export to an XML file (be sure to include the .xml extension in the file name)
2. Open Mnemosyne-Parser.exe from wherever you extracted it.
3. Browse for the XML export file from Step 1 in the Import file field in Mnemosyne-Parser.
4. Choose where you want the .jpg flash cards to be saved in the Output Folder field. A good choice is a folder in your Pictures (or "My Pictures") folder that you sync using iTunes to your iPhone/iPod Touch. Be sure to add a trailing backslash to the Output Folder, like C:\users\irv\Pictures\ You'll probably want to check the option to "include cards with 0 repetitions" (cards you haven't yet reviewed in Mnemosyne).
5. Click PSP in the Mnemosyne-Parser toolbar to generate the .jpg flash cards
6. Sync the folder of jpeg flash cards to your device using iTunes (or whatever does picture sync for your device.)
7. Access the "photos" in the "Photos" app on your iPhone (or equivalent).

That's it!

If it's not working for you

Ensure that the output path has a trailing backslash \

Using parser on windows mobile 6.1

Hi there,
I am trying to make use of the parser on windows mobile 6.1.

I have transferred the unzipped file to my pda, however, when I try to execute it, I recieve the following message:
"An unexpected error has occurred in Mnemosyne_Parser.exe. .............. File or assembly name 'System.Windows.Forms,Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089', or one of its dependencies, was not found.

I thank you for any advice that you can provide.

having trouble trying to use

Hi, I'm new mnemosyne, XML's and to Ipods, so I'm a newbie in every way. But I was really excited to see a possible way to look at mnemosyne cards on the Ipod, so I downloaded your program to my PC and tried to import a vocabulary file and use the parser via running the exe in the unzipped files. Alas, after I entered the file I wanted to see, and where I wanted to see it, I tried to run by clicking 'flash me' (which I guess is the menu option to run the program). I got a top/bottom screen that looks like it would show the flashcard question and answer, but both boxes were empty and the program was frozen... but I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

If you could share some simple step by step instructions on how to use the program, on my pc and more importantly on ipod I'd appreciate it.

FYI, I'm trying to be able to view the chinese PCR and NPCR vocabulary cards ON Ipod.

Thanks.

John
