Cards created from a modified version of http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Blank_map_of_Europe.svg, using Timothy Burke's svgtoquiz script (http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~tbourke/software/svgtoquiz.html).

Description:

This set of cards contains maps of most of the countries in Europe.

See the included readme.txt for installation instructions and notes on countries included and excluded.

Japanese Prefectures

Source images from Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia (123). Spelling from Wikipedia.
Most (46/48) pictures were taken directly from there and only resized. The full map was made by merging two files together with Paint. Tokushima map is made by me (based on the full map), since I couldn't find it in Wikipedia.

Description:

Japanese prefectures (47), names in kanji, hiragana and English.

Installation:
Unzip to your .mnemosyne directory (C:\Documents and Settings\(my username)\.mnemosyne\), you should end up with \maps\Prefectures_of_Japan folder and there should be Japanese_prefectures.xml file inside that folder.

Now open your Mnemosyne and select File -> import -> XML and select the Japanese_prefectures.xml file inside that folder. I reset the learning data when I exported the package, but you might want to select the "Reset learning data on import" just in case.

Asia and Middle East

Description:

UPDATE: This set of cards has been fixed to take advantage of the Answer Overlay patch.

NEWER UPDATE: Due to an xml formatting error, one card (Australia) continued to show up in non-Answer Overlay format. I fixed the error and re-uploaded the set.

A collection of 67 countries, islands, and archipelagos. I've included virtually everything that might be considered a part of Asia or the Middle East, and went so far as to toss in Australia (since hey, it's just one item anyway).

Some less-obvious features:

- Japan is split up into its four major islands
- Arctic islands and archipelagos are included

-------------------
--Important Notes--
-------------------

I tried to be fairly thorough with this set of cards and added a number of minor islands to the data set. If you do not want to memorize these extra items, just delete those cards as you come to them.

--Installation Instructions--
-----------------------------

1. Make sure you have Mnemosyne installed: http://www.mnemosyne-proj.org/index.php

2. Unzip the contents of this archive to your ".mnemosyne" directory. On my Windows XP installation, that directory is in this location... C:\Documents and Settings\(my username)\.mnemosyne\

3. Make sure that you uncompressed the archive correctly by ensuring that the image files are located in your ".mnemosyne\maps\Asia_and_Middle_East\" directory.

4. Load up Mnemosyne and go to File > Import. Toggle the "File format" dropdown box to "XML". Then hit "Browse" and navigate to your ".mnemosyne\maps\Asia_and_Middle_East\" directory and choose "Asia_and_Middle_East.xml" as the file to import.

5. Click "OK"

I have tested this with Mnemosyne version 1.0.1.1 and it worked just fine; however, if you encounter any problems, don't hesitate to e-mail me at the e-mail address listed in the readme file in the archive.

Countries of Africa

Source:

Original map downloaded from:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/66/Blank_Map-Africa.svg
(This file is licensed under: Public Domain by Andreas 06)

The land colour was changed to match Map_of_USA.svg. A blue background was
added.

The individual images and export file were automatically generated using a
script: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~tbourke/software/svgtoquiz.html

Description:

Cards for learning the countries of Africa.

* Most of the smaller island nations and territories are not included.
* Only one of the Sao Tome & Principe islands is highlighted due to
limitations in the svgtoquiz script.

The reason for posting these cards is that installing the software needed to run the script on Mac is frustrating and this will spare some work.

Unzip and move to .mnemosyne/

import europe.xml from .mnemosyne/maps/europe.xml
